Thunderstorm, rain alert in 24 UP districts; mercury crosses 46°C, heatwave to intensify from tomorrow

UP is also gripped by severe heat and a heatwave. Since Sunday morning, bright sunshine has been seen throughout the state. The slow speed of the wind is creating a feeling of humidity. There is a heatwave (loo) alert in 54 districts today. Out of these, 10 districts have a red alert, which means scorching hot winds will blow there.

There is also a storm-drain alert in 24 districts of western UP. According to the Meteorological Department, a western disturbance has become active in central Assam. Its effect can be seen in western UP, especially in districts adjacent to Delhi. Cloudy and rainy weather is expected.

Earlier, on Saturday, Banda remained the hottest city in the state with 46.2°C. In Prayagraj, 46°C, in Jhansi 44.9°C, in Kanpur 44.2°C, and in Sultanpur 44.4°C were recorded. There was light rain in Ghaziabad. Storms occurred in Mathura, Ayodhya, Barabanki, and Gonda. The heat was so intense that tigers and elephants in Aman’sgarh Tiger Reserve in Bijnor were distressed. They roamed around the pond throughout the day.

The meteorological department has indicated the possibility of storms and rain in Nautapa, which begins tomorrow. However, meteorologists estimate that Nautapa will also be hot. The average temperature may remain up to 45 degrees.
