Heavy Rain in Jhansi; Storm Alert in 17 Districts, Heatwave Warning in 35 Across Uttar Pradesh

The weather in UP has taken a turn once again. More than half of the state is under intense heat and scorching sun. The mercury has crossed 47°C. Banda remained the hottest city in the world with a temperature of 47.6°C. Earlier, on 30 April 2022 and 25 April 2026, the mercury here had reached a maximum of 47.4°C.

Meanwhile, in several districts including Bareilly-Barabanki, cool winds have been blowing since Tuesday morning. There was light drizzle in Kanpur in the morning, providing some relief from the heat. Earlier, there was heavy rainfall in Jhansi for about 30 minutes late at night. Dust storms occurred in Lucknow and Ghaziabad, covering the sky with a cloud of dust.

The Meteorological Department (IMD) says that due to the cool winds coming from the east, temperatures in western and eastern UP have dropped by 2-3°C. However, in Bundelkhand, the mercury has risen by 1°C. Today, there is an alert for storms, squalls, and rain in 17 districts. Winds may blow at a speed of 70 km/h. Meanwhile, a heatwave warning has been issued in 35 districts.

Lucknow’s weather scientist Atul Singh said-

A new western disturbance is becoming active in the state from today. This will start a new spell of rain with thunder and lightning. In the next 5 days, amid the ups and downs in the weather, there will be some relief from heat and the hot wind. The temperature will drop up to 4°C. However, in some areas, along with daytime hot winds, the nights are also likely to remain warm.

Storm-Rain Alert in These Districts

Saharanpur, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Rampur, Bulandshahr, Badaun, Amroha, Auraiya, Agra, Mathura, Mahamayanagar, Jalaun, Firozabad, Balrampur, Kanpur, and Lucknow have been warned of heavy rainfall.

What will the weather be like in the next 5 days?

April 29: There will be good rainfall in Eastern and Western UP. Strong winds will blow. Nighttime temperatures will drop.
April 30: There will be rain across the entire state. There is a possibility of lightning strikes. Warm winds will blow at a speed of 40 km/h during the day.

May 1: There will be light rain in Western UP and heavy rain in Eastern UP. Lightning may also strike amidst the rumbling of clouds.
May 2: There may be light rain in some areas of the state. Strong winds will blow. There will be a slight drop in temperature.
May 3: In some places in Eastern and Western UP, there will be light rain with thunder and lightning. There is no possibility of a storm.
