UP Weather: Rain, Storms Hit 10 Cities; 14 Dead, Alert in 68 Districts

Uttar Pradesh witnessed a major change in the weather. Amidst the intense heat and scorching sun, thunderstorms and rain are now continuing. Many parts of the state are overcast, with occasional glimpses of light sunshine. Rain was recorded in about 10 cities, including Kanpur, Agra, and Mathura, on Thursday morning.

Heavy rain in several districts, weather to remain unstable
Gonda, Unnao, and Bhadohi experienced heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning late last night, while heavy rain in Amethi and Pratapgarh brought pleasant weather in the morning. Intermittent drizzle and cool winds were observed in Lucknow. The Meteorological Department has issued a storm and rain alert for 68 districts today and predicted bad weather for the next five days. This could cause temperatures to drop by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius.

Storm causes damage, deaths reported in multiple areas
The storm and rain caused damage in many areas. A pontoon bridge was washed away in Ghazipur, while one person died due to lightning in Agra. On Wednesday, storms and rain also occurred in 30 districts, including Prayagraj and Varanasi. Hailstorms were reported in 10 districts, including Lucknow and Barabanki. Strong winds uprooted trees and power poles, and several mud houses collapsed. A total of 13 people died in these incidents, including seven in Sultanpur, two each in Ayodhya and Amethi, and one each in Prayagraj and Ghazipur.

Rainfall data and temperature update across cities
According to rainfall data, Gorakhpur recorded 19.2 mm of rain, Prayagraj 11.2 mm, and Varanasi 9 mm. Amethi and Azamgarh received about 5 mm of rain. Meanwhile, Banda remained the hottest city in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 45.8 degrees Celsius.
