UP Weather Update: Minimum temperature sets record; alert issued for 45 districts today

The impact of the storms and rainfall that have persisted in Uttar Pradesh for the past three days is clearly evident. There has been a significant drop in maximum temperatures, and a cool atmosphere prevailed throughout the day across most regions, including the Terai belt.

Barabanki recorded lowwest Maximum Temp

On Tuesday, Barabanki recorded the lowest maximum temperature in the state at 27.5°C, while Kanpur ranked second with 29.4°C. In both locations, temperatures remained approximately 11 degrees below normal.

Lucknow and Agra recorded the second-coldest day in the history of meteorological records for the month of May. In terms of rainfall data, Fatehpur in Barabanki topped the list with 72 mm. This was followed by Siddharthnagar with 66 mm, Ambedkarnagar with 42 mm, and Gorakhpur with 41.4 mm of precipitation.

The wind speeds accompanying the storms were also intense; winds reached speeds of up to 85 km/h in Bahraich and Balrampur, while in Gorakhpur, the speed touched 81 km/h. For Wednesday, a warning has been issued for 45 districts, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h.

According to Atul Kumar Singh, a senior scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre in Lucknow, the extent of the rainfall will become limited to the Terai and southern districts starting Wednesday and Thursday. Once the rains subside, temperatures are expected to rise by up to seven degrees over the following seven days.

The impact of the intermittent drizzle and strong winds that have persisted in the state capital for the past three days is clearly visible in the weather conditions. Over the last two days, Lucknow has witnessed a significant drop in maximum temperatures, and a distinct coolness has settled in the air.

On Tuesday, the maximum temperature dropped so low that it marked the second-coldest day in Lucknow’s recorded meteorological history for the month of May. The maximum temperature recorded here was 28°C a full 11.4°C below the seasonal normal. Prior to this, on May 29, 2021, the maximum temperature recorded was 27.8°C.

The Meteorological Department states that there remains a possibility of intermittent drizzle in Lucknow on Wednesday as well. Subsequently, the disturbance will weaken, and a gradual rise in temperature will once again be observed. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature dropped by 1 degree to settle at 28 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature fell by 3.8 degrees to be recorded at 20.2 degrees. According to Atul Kumar Singh, a senior scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre, weather fluctuations will persist until May 7 under the influence of a new Western Disturbance. Light drizzle is also likely on Wednesday.
