Dense Fog in Punjab and Chandigarh, Rain Forecast From Jan 19

People in Punjab and Chandigarh are experiencing some relief from the harsh winter as temperatures are rising. A cold wave is not expected until next week. However, dense fog is predicted to persist during the morning and night hours until January 22nd. According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Department, dense fog will prevail in six districts of Punjab today.

The impact was felt in Jalandhar. Dense fog descended around 9 p.m., reducing visibility to near zero. Meanwhile, a car lost control and fell into a drain near DAV College. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and both occupants were safely rescued.

Meanwhile, six people, including a lady constable from Gujarat, died in fog-related road accidents on Saturday. In light of these accidents, the police department has appealed to people to follow traffic rules during fog.

The Meteorological Department says that a Western Disturbance has become active in the mountains. As a result, clouds will begin to appear in some areas from Sunday evening. Today, the maximum temperature increased by 2.8 degrees, making it 1.7 degrees above normal.

Sri Anandpur Sahib recorded a maximum temperature of 22.6 degrees Celsius. Amritsar recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 4.4 degrees Celsius.

According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Centre, dense fog is likely to prevail in some areas of Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala today, while the weather will remain dry.

According to the Meteorological Department, the western disturbance that formed near northeastern Iran has now reached Afghanistan and adjacent Pakistan. It exists as a wind trough approximately 3.1 kilometers above sea level. Consequently, two consecutive western disturbances could affect northwest India on the nights of January 19th and 21st. This could lead to changes in the weather in these areas.

The rainy season will begin on the 19th.

Surendra Pal, Director of the Chandigarh Meteorological Center, stated that there is a strong possibility of light rain in some areas of the state on the 19th. Light to moderate rain is possible in many places of the state on the 22nd and 23rd. The minimum temperature may increase by about 2 degrees in the next 48 hours. After this, the temperature will remain unchanged for three days, and then the temperature may increase by 3 to 5 degrees later.
