Urvashi Rautela appears before ED in 1xBet Illegal Betting App Case

New Delhi: Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela on Tuesday appeared at the ED headquarters to join the investigation into the illegal betting app 1xbet case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on September 14 issued summons to Rautela and TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty as part of its probe into online betting platform 1xBet, which is being investigated for alleged money laundering.

The ED’s action in the betting app case is part of a wider crackdown on illegal betting platforms and their celebrity promoters, which already includes several high-profile names.

Under this case, former cricketer Shikhar Dhawan was summoned by the agency and Suresh Raina also appeared before the investigating body in connection with the same matter.

The central government recently banned real-money online gaming under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025. According to experts, the online betting app market in India is worth over $100 billion and is growing at a rate of 30%.

According to estimates by market analysis firms and research agencies, various such online betting apps have around 22 crore Indian users, out of which half (around 11 crore) are regular users.

The government recently told Parliament that it has issued 1,524 orders to block online betting and gambling platforms from 2022 to June 2025.
