US-Iran Tensions Escalate: Trump Sets 10-Day Ultimatum, UK Denies Bases

US President Donald Trump has sharply warned Iran that it has 10 to 15 days to reach a “meaningful deal” on its nuclear program with Washington or face unspecified consequences a threat he described during the first meeting of his so-called “Board of Peace”. If negotiations fail, Trump said “bad things happen”, signaling that the US may consider military action.

This ultimatum comes amidst ongoing diplomatic negotiations between US and Iranian officials aimed at ending the impasse over Tehran’s nuclear enrichment and wider security concerns.

 UK Refuses US Permission to Use Bases

In a rare diplomatic rift between allies, the United Kingdom has denied the United States permission to use British military bases including RAF sites and possibly Diego Garcia for potential air strikes against Iran. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government has cited legal concerns about participating in offensive military action without clear international law backing.

President Trump has publicly criticized the UK decision and linked it to broader disagreements over defence cooperation, underlining strained ties even between close Western partners.

 Military Buildup and Regional Risk

 The United States has deployed additional naval and air assets to the Middle East including aircraft carrier groups and fighter jets amid fears of a possible military confrontation if diplomacy collapses. Iran, for its part, has responded with military drills and threats of retaliation, including warnings against attacks on US forces or bases in the region.

Russia has urged restraint and peaceful negotiations, even as tensions intensify and geopolitical stakes rise across the region.
