Prayagraj:The first day of the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) 2026 witnessed both tragedy and strict enforcement, as a police constable deployed on examination duty died during service while authorities detected and apprehended 15 impersonators attempting to appear for the exam using fraudulent means. The examination, conducted under unprecedented security arrangements, was held peacefully across the state despite the isolated incidents.

More than 20 lakh candidates have registered for the three-day examination being conducted from July 2 to July 4 across 955 examination centres in 60 districts. The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) has introduced advanced monitoring systems, including artificial intelligence (AI)-based surveillance, biometric verification and CCTV coverage, to ensure a fair and transparent examination process.

Constable Dies While on Duty

A police constable deployed for security duty at a UPTET examination centre died during the course of his assignment. Officials expressed condolences over the incident, while local authorities initiated the necessary formalities. The exact cause of death was yet to be officially detailed.

The incident cast a shadow over the examination, even as authorities ensured that the conduct of the test remained unaffected.

15 Impersonators Detected Through AI Monitoring

The Commission’s Integrated Control and Command Centre in Prayagraj played a crucial role in identifying examination fraud. AI-powered surveillance systems flagged suspicious candidates in real time, leading to the detection of 15 impersonators on the very first day.

Seven fake candidates were caught during the morning shift, while eight more were detected in the afternoon session. All of them were handed over to the local police, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused. Officials said AI-enabled cameras continuously monitored candidates throughout the examination, helping authorities identify impersonation attempts instantly.

Strict Security Measures at Examination Centres

Authorities implemented stringent frisking procedures before candidates were allowed inside examination halls. Female candidates were instructed to untie their hair buns, remove bangles, jewellery and other accessories to ensure that no electronic devices or unfair means were concealed.

Candidates also underwent biometric verification, identity checks and physical screening before entering the examination centres. CCTV cameras installed across all venues transmitted live feeds to the central control room, allowing officials to monitor every centre in real time.

Technology Used to Prevent Cheating

The Commission has significantly strengthened its anti-cheating mechanisms this year. Along with AI surveillance, candidates are required to undergo biometric authentication, while examination centres remain under constant digital monitoring.

Earlier, UPESSC had also introduced mandatory live photographs during the application process and additional verification measures for twin applicants to prevent impersonation and identity fraud. These reforms are aimed at ensuring greater transparency in recruitment examinations.

Officials stated that the examination concluded peacefully on the first day, with a high attendance rate across centres. They reiterated that strict surveillance and technological interventions would continue throughout the remaining examination days to ensure that the recruitment process remains fair, transparent and free from malpractice.
