US Parliament Deals Major Blow to Trump

Currently, a 60-day ceasefire has been reached between the US and Iran. According to Trump, the Strait of Hormuz has been opened, and containers loaded with petrol and other essential goods are moving freely. India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has also stated that opening the Strait of Hormuz will facilitate the recovery of the country and the world’s economy. During the ceasefire, Trump’s sometimes erratic rhetoric and aggressive stance are creating uncertainty in neighboring countries. The backlash against Trump in the US over this war clearly indicates that no matter what Trump says, he will never again confront Iran with full force. The US President is facing setbacks within the US over the Iran war. First, a resolution against the Iran war was presented in the US Senate, and it passed by a margin of 50 to 48.

The Senate said stop the war. Four MPs from Trump’s party voted against Trump in Parliament. Before this, a resolution opposing the war had also been passed in the House of Representatives. The next step was the Parliament, where the opposing resolution was passed as well. For the first time in 5 decades, an American President has faced such a defeat in Parliament. Trump had originally requested Rs 7.5 trillion (750 million rupees) in funding from the US Congress to continue this war, which he called the Iran War Fund, but the Congress passed a resolution opposing it.

This means he will not receive funds to fight the war. What can Trump do now, as his own party is voting against him? The US is going to hold midterm elections in November. Trump’s party’s victory in these elections, coupled with his current image, has been cast into doubt, but Trump doesn’t want to lose. Funds aren’t forthcoming, and if Trump doesn’t want to lose the war, who will he rely on to fight Iran? When the ceasefire ends after 60 days and a decision has to be made on his 14-point demands, Trump will be in a quandary. This means that Trump’s flamboyant, loud, and seemingly ever-changing personality has been defeated.
