Uttam Nagar Murder: Accused House Partly Razed in Delhi

Authorities in Delhi carried out demolition action against a property linked to an accused in the Uttam Nagar murder case, days after the killing of a 26-year-old man triggered tension in the area. Civic officials partially demolished illegal portions of the house during a joint operation conducted under heavy police deployment in the JJ Colony locality of west Delhi.

The action was taken by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), which said the targeted sections of the building were constructed without proper authorisation. Police and paramilitary forces were present at the site to ensure law and order as the demolition was carried out.

The development comes amid growing anger among residents and the victim’s family following the fatal incident that occurred during the Holi festival earlier this week.

Murder during Holi celebrations sparked violence

The case relates to the death of 26-year-old Tarun Kumar, who was allegedly beaten to death during a violent clash between two families in Uttam Nagar on the day of Holi. The dispute reportedly began after a minor altercation during the celebrations escalated into a serious confrontation.

Investigators said the families had known each other for decades and had earlier disputes related to everyday issues such as parking, garbage disposal, and neighbourhood tensions. These long-standing disagreements reportedly intensified during the festival, eventually leading to the deadly attack.

The incident shocked the local community and led to protests and unrest in parts of the neighbourhood.

Multiple arrests made in the case

Delhi Police have arrested several individuals in connection with the killing as the investigation continues. According to officials, at least eight suspects have been taken into custody, including a juvenile who was apprehended earlier.

Authorities have also invoked provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, indicating that investigators are examining whether caste-related factors played a role in the crime.

Despite the demolition of part of the accused’s house, the victim’s family and local residents say the action is not enough. They have demanded stricter punishment and similar action against other accused individuals involved in the attack.
