Cold Wave Tightens Grip on Uttar Pradesh, Dense Fog Disrupts Trains, Flights and Schools

Patna: A cold wave and severe cold have begun to descend on Uttar Pradesh. Several cities, including Lucknow and Jaunpur, are experiencing drizzle this morning, leaving roads wet.

Dense Fog Covers 50 Districts, Visibility Drops Sharply

Fog has enveloped 50 districts, and some roads are deserted. It’s difficult to see even 10 meters.

Rail and Air Services Severely Affected

More than 50 trains are delayed at several railway stations, including Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Gorakhpur. Some have been cancelled. Fog has also affected air travel.

Schools Closed, Timings Changed in Several Districts

Schools have been closed in 10 cities. Schools up to 8th standard have been closed in Bareilly, Kanpur, Kasganj, Auraiya, Jaunpur and up to 12th standard in Hathras, Bijnor, Kanpur Dehat, Farrukhabad and Sambhal. School timings have been changed in 10 districts including Lucknow. Classes will start at 9 am in schools up to class 12.

Special Measures Taken for Cattle

For the first time in Kanpur, cows in cow shelters have been made to wear cow-coats to protect them from the cold.

Government on High Alert

The government is also on alert. People have been urged not to leave their homes unnecessarily. The speed limit for vehicles on highways has been reduced to between 60 and 80 km/h. A severe cold alert has been issued for the next two days. During this time, dense fog will prevail in the state.

Impact on Crops

Farmers say that fog is beneficial for the wheat crop, but is proving detrimental to potatoes, pulses, and peas.
