Cold Wave and Dense Fog Disrupt Life Across Uttar Pradesh, Schools Closed and Flights Delayed

Varanasi: Cold wave continues in Uttar Pradesh. Severe cold and dense fog are adding to the hardships of the residents. A blanket of fog has covered about 40 districts of the state, severely affecting normal life.

Dense fog in 40 districts, roads deserted

Dense fog has covered many districts including Lucknow, Barabanki, Ayodhya, Gonda, Ghaziabad, Meerut and Bareilly. Vehicles are seen crawling on the roads, and dew drops are falling like rain.

Cold winds create a mountain-like feeling

The cold waves have cooled the air so much that the weather feels like Shimla and Mussoorie. Two-wheeler riders are feeling numbness in their hands.

Rail and flight services affected

The fog has also affected rail and air traffic.

Eight flights from Gorakhpur airport and 14 from Lucknow airport are running late.

Nine flights to Kashi and four to Lucknow have been cancelled.

38 trains arrived at Kanpur railway station and 10 trains arrived at Ayodhya railway station with a delay of 2 to 4 hours.

Government warning, appeal to people to stay indoors

The state government has appealed to people not to step out of their homes unnecessarily due to cold and fog.

The speed limit of vehicles on state highways has been reduced to 60 to 80 kmph.

Schools closed in several districts, timings changed

Schools in Bareilly, Kanpur, Kasganj, Auraiya and Jaunpur have been closed till December 20.

Schools up to class 12 are closed in Kanpur Dehat, Agra, Farrukhabad and Sambhal.

School timings have been changed in 10 districts including Lucknow, where schools up to class 12 will start at 9 am.

Bulandshahr coldest, records 7 degrees Celsius

Bulandshahr remained the coldest district in the state on Thursday, with a minimum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius.

Lakhimpur Kheri came second, with a temperature of 8 degrees Celsius.

Meteorological Department issues three-day alert

The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave and dense fog alert for the next three days. Visibility is expected to drop to zero during this period.

Impact on crops, mixed reactions from farmers

Farmers say that fog is beneficial for wheat crops, but is harming crops like potatoes, pulses and peas.

What will the weather be like for the next two days?

December 20: Dense fog will prevail over eastern and western Uttar Pradesh. Visibility may be from 0 to 100 meters. Scattered clouds will also remain.

December 21: Light fog is expected over western Uttar Pradesh and dense fog is expected over eastern Uttar Pradesh. Visibility is expected to be from 0 to 100 meters.
