Dense Fog Grips 20 UP Districts as Cold Intensifies; Kanpur Records 6°C

Kanpur: Increasing snowfall in the hilly areas of Uttar Pradesh has further worsened the cold in the plains. Since Friday morning, 20 districts, including Lucknow, Sitapur, Barabanki, Ayodhya, Gonda and Deoria, have been engulfed in dense fog. Road visibility reduced to just 5 meters at many places. People were seen lighting fires. Zero visibility was recorded in Gorakhpur and Bareilly.

Kanpur coldest, minimum temperature 6 degrees

In the last 24 hours, Kanpur was the coldest place in the state, with the minimum temperature remaining at 6 degrees Celsius. Dense fog has led to road accidents in Ayodhya, Maharajganj and Shahjahanpur, resulting in the deaths of four people, including a pregnant woman.

Cold increases cases of cold and cough

The number of patients suffering from cold, cough and pneumonia has increased due to severe cold and dense fog. The number of patients in the outpatient department of Siddharthnagar Medical College and District Hospital has reached 1,200.

Fog and mist are considered favorable for wheat and mustard crops, improving their yields. However, excessive cold or persistent fog can slow down plant growth. Increased humidity also increases the risk of mold, leaf blight, and other diseases.
