Uttarakhand: Car falls into river in Uttarkashi, 4 dead; search continues for 3 missing

Uttarkashi: A major road accident occurred in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, on Thursday morning. An MUV car lost control and plunged into the river near Ganganani Dharmkund. Four people died in the accident, while a rescue operation is underway to search for three others, officials said.

The accident occurred on Thursday morning near Ganganani Dharmkund on the Gangotri National Highway. According to initial information, a total of seven people were travelling in the seven-seater car. Following the accident, the bodies of four people were recovered from the river bank. The search for the remaining victims is underway amid strong currents.

Car falls into the river after going 20 meters ahead

According to reports, the car went out of control of the driver about 20 meters from Ganganani Dharmkund towards Dabrani and fell straight into the river.

Upon receiving information about the accident, teams from the local police, SDRF, and 108 ambulance service arrived at the scene. The district administration, police, and emergency services immediately launched a relief and rescue operation. Rescue operations were accelerated on the instructions of District Magistrate Prashant Arya.

Strong river currents hampering rescue efforts

Following the recovery of four bodies from the river bank, the process of identifying the deceased has begun. Divers have also been deployed to locate other people in the vehicle.

The strong river current poses a major challenge to the rescue operation. Rescue teams are continuously searching potential areas along the river.

Efforts to transport the injured person to the road

With the help of Maneri police, the administration is attempting to transport an injured person to the road so that he can receive immediate medical attention. The Disaster Management Center and medical teams have also been put on alert.

District Magistrate Prashant Arya is monitoring the entire incident. Officials on the spot have been instructed to expedite the rescue operation and provide all possible assistance to the affected people.

The administration is trying to contact the families of the victims. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the accident. Further details are awaited.
