Uttarakhand Census: 33 Questions on Homes and Diet Notified

Ahead of the housing census scheduled in Uttarakhand, the Census Directorate has issued a notification listing 33 key questions that will be asked to households between 25 April and 24 May 2026 as part of the house-listing and housing enumeration phase.

The aim is to collect detailed information not just on basic amenities like electricity and drinking water, but also on household characteristics such as building materials and what the family primarily eats.

 What the Census Will Cover

Officials have outlined the 33 questions to capture a range of information on living conditions and amenities. These include:

• House structure details (floor, wall, roof materials).

• Ownership and use of the house.

• Access to electricity, water, toilets, and sanitation.

• Kitchen facilities and cooking fuel used.

• Household assets like radios, TVs, internet, computers and vehicles.

• Main cereal consumed by the family and a mobile contact number just for census communication.

The notification says all data collected during the housing count will be completely confidential and not shared publicly at any level.

 Census Preparations Underway

Preparations are in progress across the state, with training of census officials taking place at district levels from 19 to 28 February. Trainers will familiarize staff with procedures and tools, including digital systems and the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS) portal.

House-listing and housing enumeration is just the first phase of India’s comprehensive Census 2027, which will be followed by population enumeration next year.
