Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved a CBI investigation into the murder of 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari. This decision was made respecting the sentiments and request of Ankita’s grieving parents. Public anger and protests had intensified across the state in recent days following the circulation of viral audio clips and allegations of alleged “VIP” involvement.
Background of the Ankita Bhandari Murder Case
Ankita Bhandari worked as a receptionist at a resort near Rishikesh. She went missing in September 2022. Her body was later recovered, after which the resort owner Pulkit Arya (son of a former BJP leader) and his two associates were arrested.
SIT Investigation and Court Verdict
The state government had formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a female IPS officer to investigate the case. The team conducted a swift and thorough investigation. The three accused were denied bail throughout the process, and the charge sheet was filed on time. In May 2025, the lower court convicted all three accused and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
