Vaibhav Suryavanshi breaks world record for most sixes in Youth ODIs

New Delhi: Indian teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed the record for the most career sixes in Youth ODI cricket during his blistering 70-run knock off 68 balls in the second India U-19 vs Australia U-19 clash at the Ian Healy Oval on Wednesday.

    Record-Breaking Innings

The 14-year-old left-hander struck five fours and six sixes, with his fourth maximum of the day taking him past former India U-19 captain Unmukt Chand’s tally of 38 sixes in 21 matches.

Remarkably, Suryavanshi achieved the feat in just 10 innings, extending his record to 41 career sixes. India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal sits third on the all-time list with 30 sixes in 27 Youth ODIs.

Key Knock in India’s Strong Total

Suryavanshi reached his half-century off 54 balls before falling to Australian skipper Yash Deshmukh. His innings, coming after opener Ayush Mhatre’s early dismissal, helped India recover to 117/2 in 18.3 overs.

Together with Vihaan Malhotra (70 runs), Suryavanshi laid the foundation for a competitive total. India U-19 eventually posted 301 in 49.4 overs. At the time of reporting, Australia U-19 were struggling at 96/4 in 26.4 overs.

    Rising Star of Youth Cricket

This knock follows Suryavanshi’s explosive 38 off 22 balls in India’s seven-wicket win in the opening ODI. Earlier this year, he was the top run-scorer in the India U-19 vs England U-19 series, amassing 355 runs in five matches at an average of 71.00 and a strike rate of 174.01.

    IPL Breakthrough at 14

Suryavanshi has already made headlines at senior level. He became the youngest player ever picked at the IPL auction (2025) and went on to script history as the youngest centurion in IPL, blasting a 35-ball 100 for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans.

He finished his debut IPL season with 252 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 206.56, clinching the Super Striker of the Season award.
