14-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Shatters World Record, Hits 14 Sixes in Youth ODI

New Delhi: India’s rising star Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history in the Under-19 Asia Cup match played in Dubai. On Friday, he smashed 14 sixes against the UAE, setting a new world record for the most sixes in a Youth ODI.

Vaibhav played a blistering innings of 171 runs off 95 balls, including 14 sixes and 9 fours. He broke Australia’s Michael Hill’s record of 12 sixes set in 2008.

Reaching his century in just 56 balls, Vaibhav led India to a mammoth total of 433 runs—India’s highest ever total in a Youth ODI. This score also surpassed the record of 425 runs set by Dhaka against Scotland last year.

Aaron George and Vihaan Malhotra also strengthened the team’s lead with 69 runs each.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Past Records

1. Youngest Centurion in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Just 10 days before his explosive performance in the Youth ODI, Vaibhav had already scored the youngest century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored an unbeaten 108 off 61 balls against Maharashtra at Eden Gardens, including 7 fours and 7 sixes. At just 14 years old, he is the only player to score three T20 centuries.

2. Youngest Player to Score a Half-Century in the IPL

Vaibhav became the youngest player to score a half-century in the IPL at just 14 years and 32 days old. Previously, Riyan Parag had achieved this feat at the age of 17.

3. Youngest T20 Century

Vaibhav set another major record by scoring a century in just 35 balls for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans.
He achieved this feat at the age of only 14 years and 32 days.

Domestic Cricket Performance So Far

Vaibhav has played 8 first-class matches and 6 List A matches for Bihar, scoring 207 and 132 runs respectively.

In T20 cricket, he has scored 701 runs in 18 matches, which demonstrates his consistency and talent.

The Journey of a Child Prodigy

Born on March 27, 2011, Vaibhav began playing cricket at the age of 9. His father, Sanjeev, made significant sacrifices to fulfill his son’s dream—even selling his land to support Vaibhav’s training.

Vaibhav trained at the Zenith Cricket Academy in Samastipur.

His father, Sanjeev, would travel 100 kilometers every other day to take him to matches. During extra practice sessions, he would pack food for Vaibhav and his 10 fellow players so that all players could get equal practice.

According to the coaches, it is this dedication and discipline of his father that has shaped Vaibhav into an extraordinary talent.
