‘Valmiki Ramayana’ books October 2 release in theatres

Mumbai: The first poster of the upcoming film ‘Valmiki Ramayana’ was unveiled on Thursday, offering a glimpse into a cinematic vision rooted in devotion, purity, and reverence. The film aims to stay true to the spirit of one of India’s most sacred epics, presenting it as a theatrical experience grounded in faith and simplicity.

Strong Creative Team Behind the Project

The film is helmed by Bhavna Talwar and brings together a highly accomplished creative team. Renowned production designer Sabu Cyril leads the visual design, while noted author Anand Neelakantan has written the screenplay, drawing directly from the original Valmiki Ramayana.

Veteran cinematographer Binod Pradhan contributes his visual storytelling expertise, and Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty handles the film’s soundscape. Filmmaker and scholar Chandraprakash Dwivedi joins as Creative Consultant and dialogue writer.

Focus on Spiritual Depth Over Spectacle

The makers are approaching the film with restraint and reverence, emphasizing the spiritual and emotional essence of the epic rather than relying solely on grand visuals. The goal is to create a heartfelt cinematic experience that resonates with audiences across generations.

Epic Story Rooted in Ancient Indian Literature

The Valmiki Ramayana is one of the earliest Sanskrit epics, composed between 500–100 BCE, consisting of around 24,000 verses across seven books.

The narrative follows Lord Ram of Ayodhya, his exile, the abduction of Sita by Ravana, and her rescue with the help of allies like Hanuman. The epic explores themes of dharma, duty, family values, and ethical conduct, and has influenced countless adaptations across South and Southeast Asia.

The film is scheduled to release in theatres on October 2, promising a culturally rich and spiritually engaging cinematic experience.
