New Delhi, Dec 31, 2025 – Indian Railways has successfully completed the final high-speed trial of the indigenous Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, with the train achieving a top trial speed of 180 km per hour on the Kota–Nagda section, marking a major milestone for India’s long-distance high-speed rail ambitions.
Under the supervision of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train ran at a peak speed of 180 kmph, successfully meeting all safety and technical parameters including stability, braking performance, ride comfort, and vibration behavior.
The trial run saw officials evaluate multiple key systems and the performance of the trainset, with CRS declaring the trial fully successful.
During the trial, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video on social media from inside the train showing glasses filled with water placed on a flat surface remaining stable even at 180 kmph — a demonstration popularly referred to as the “water test” that highlights the train’s superior ride stability and suspension design.
The 16-coach Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is designed to cater to long-distance overnight travel, equipped with modern amenities such as:
Comfortable sleeper berths
Advanced suspension systems
Automatic doors
Modern toilets and fire safety systems
CCTV surveillance & digital passenger information
Energy-efficient technologies
These features aim to deliver a world-class passenger experience on par with international standards.
The successful completion of the high-speed trial paves the way for the commercial introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train. The service has faced earlier delays but is expected to roll out soon after final certifications and clearances.
