Uttar Pradesh: In Varanasi, people have begun to feel the intense heat of the sun as early as 7:00 AM. By late morning, the mercury is already soaring to 43 degrees Celsius; consequently, the ghats remain deserted until 9:00 AM.
However, the Municipal Corporation has installed green shade nets at various intersections across the city to provide some relief to commuters waiting at traffic signals. Meanwhile, according to the Meteorological Department, Varanasi ranks as the fifth hottest city in the country, with temperatures here reaching as high as 44 degrees Celsius.

Silence Prevails Across Varanasi From the Ganga Ghats to the Streets
The impact of the scorching heat and rising temperatures is evident throughout Varanasi from the Ganga Ghats to the city streets. While the ghats fall completely silent after the morning hours, the streets of Kashi also witness significantly lower-than-usual footfall during the afternoon.
Varanasi Health Department Issues Advisory
In view of the intense heat, the Health Department has issued an advisory. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Rajesh Prasad has appealed to the public to ensure they drink water before stepping out of their homes during this period. Furthermore, he advised against consuming food that has been prepared more than three hours prior. According to the CMO, during periods of extreme heat, the human body struggles to regulate its internal temperature in response to the environment, leading to an increased risk of heatstroke. This can adversely affect the brain and kidneys. Blood circulation may be impaired.
