Cricketer Vashish Mehra suffers stage 4 brain cancer, Harbhajan Singh appeals for help

Jalandhar: Young Punjab cricketer Vashish Mehra is currently fighting the biggest battle of his life. The 21-year-old is suffering from a serious stage 4 brain tumour. He is scheduled to undergo treatment at Apollo Hospital in Chennai, with the estimated cost being around ₹7 million.

Vashish Mehra began his cricket career at the junior level. Since 2019, he has consistently represented Punjab in important tournaments such as the Vinod Mankad Trophy, Cooch Behar Trophy, and Colonel CK Nayudu Trophy. He played approximately 20 junior matches for Punjab and also performed well in district tournaments for Amritsar. In 2024, he made his first-class debut for Punjab against Tripura in Mohali.

According to information received, Vashish Mehra was born in November 2003. He is originally from Amritsar, Punjab, and practised in Mohali. Vashish Mehra is a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium-fast bowler. He made his debut for the Punjab team in 2024.

Harbhajan Singh appealed for financial help for the former cricketer

He is currently battling a serious illness. Former Indian spin legend and Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh shared Vashish Mehra’s plight and appealed to the BCCI, PCA, fellow cricketers, and the public for financial assistance.

Harbhajan Singh said that it is extremely sad that a promising player like Vashish Mehra is battling such a serious illness at such a young age. He said that now is the time for the entire cricket community and society to come together and support his family so that he can receive timely treatment.
