Opposition announces Former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy as Vice President Candidate

New Delhi: Former Judge of the Supreme Court B Sudershan Reddy has been announced as the Opposition’s candidate for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election. Reddy, who has served as Judge of the Apex Court, will contest against the NDA’s nominee Governor of Maharashtra CP Radhakrishnan.

The announcement was made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.  The election of the Vice President will take place on September 9.

79-year-old Reddy has been the Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court and the first Lokayukta of Goa. He is a resident of Andhra Pradesh. He was appointed as a Supreme Court judge in 2007.

The special thing is that both candidates are from the South. Retired Justice Reddy is from Andhra Pradesh, while CP Radhakrishnan is from Tamil Nadu. Both will file nominations on August 21.

Voting for the Vice Presidential election will be held on September 9. Counting will also take place on the same day. The last date for filing nominations is August 21. Nominations can be withdrawn till August 25.

The Vice Presidential election is being held due to the sudden resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar on the night of July 21. 74-year-old Dhankhar’s tenure was till August 10, 2027.
