Victory of Justice: Congress backs SC verdict in Bilkis Bano Case

New Delhi: Congress has supported the verdict given by Supreme Court in Bilkis Bano Case in which the Apex court quashed the remission of 11 convicts. Court also directed all convicts to report back to jail authorities in 2 weeks. Various leaders of Congress party has hailed the decision and shared their stand on X. Congress termed the verdict as Victory of Justice.

In a post on X, Senior leader and Member of Parliament from Wayanad Rahul Gandhi said, “The tendency to ‘kill justice’ for electoral gains is dangerous for the democratic system. Today the Supreme Court’s decision once again told the country who is the ‘patron of criminals’. Bilkis Bano’s tireless struggle is a symbol of the victory of justice against the arrogant BJP government.”

Taking to X, General Secretary of Congress, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, “Ultimately justice has prevailed. The Supreme Court has canceled the release of the accused of #BilkisBano who was gang-raped during the Gujarat riots. With this order, the veil of the anti-women policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party has been removed. After this order, public confidence in the justice system will be further strengthened. Congratulations to Bilkis Bano for continuing her fight bravely.”

Senior leader KC Venugopal said that The entire BJP leadership owes an apology to Bilkis Bano. She has faced continuous humiliation at the hands of the Modi-led BJP governments in Gujarat and the Centre.

“The Supreme Court verdict is a tight slap on the face of those who set the rapists free and garlanded them. The Court has clearly held that the Gujarat government acted in tandem with the rapists to suppress facts and mislead the Court. The rapists must be sent back to jail immediately and should never be released”,  said Venugopal on X.
