Punjab Vigilance Bureau action in Kapurthala, Naib Court arrested for taking bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has caught Rajinder Singh, a Naib Court posted in the court of Sub Divisional Magistrate Kapurthala, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 8000.

In this regard, the official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the above accused has been arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by a resident of Nakodar, district Jalandhar.

He said that the complainant, who is a laborer by profession, told that he and his friend Joban were arrested by the police in the case under Section 128 (earlier Section 109 of CrPC) and were produced in the court of SDM Kapurthala. Thereafter, the complainant was released on bail and the next date of hearing was fixed for 18.02.2026.

He further said that the complainant has alleged that Naib Court Rajinder Singh used to harass him repeatedly and was demanding a bribe of Rs. 10,000 for dismissing the case. On the complainant’s request and expressing his inability to pay the demanded amount, the Naib Court agreed to accept a bribe of Rs. 8,000.

The entire conversation regarding the demand for bribe was recorded by the complainant Mazdar. The complainant did not want to pay the bribe, so he contacted the Vigilance Bureau unit Jalandhar. After the initial investigation of his complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team laid a trap during which the accused Naib Court Rajinder Singh was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 8000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case has been registered against the accused Rajinder under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau police station Jalandhar and further investigation into the matter is underway.
