The Punjab Vigilance Bureau, as part of its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, arrested 12 government employees red-handed while accepting bribes in 10 different bribery cases in April.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state Vigilance Bureau said that the Vigilance Bureau has made strong efforts to eradicate corruption among government employees and in every field.
He said that the bureau has filed charges related to 59 vigilance cases in various competent courts last month. Besides, four vigilance inquiries have been filed to probe the corruption cases in depth. He added that 13 criminal cases have also been registered against 21 accused, including 17 government employees.
Sharing further details, he said that various competent courts delivered verdicts in four bribery cases filed and fought by the bureau last month, convicting 20 persons and sentencing them to imprisonment ranging from two years to five years and fine ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 2,00,000.
