Punjab Vigilance Bureau, taking action in its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has arrested Dr. Harkirat Gill, SMO and Satwinder Singh, Senior Assistant red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 32,000. Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the accused have been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by a health worker. He said that an audit was going on at Community Health Centre, Sidhwan Bet, in connection with which Dr. Harkirat Gill, SMO, through Satwinder Singh, Senior Assistant, Community Health Centre, Sidhwan Bet, had demanded a bribe of Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 6,000 per employee from about 50 employees posted at CHC, Sidhwan Bet on the pretext of bribing the audit team.
The spokesperson said that after preliminary investigation of the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau (EOW) had registered a case against the accused.
The Ludhiana team laid a trap and caught the accused Satwinder Singh, Senior Assistant, red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹32,000 from the complainant in the presence of official witnesses.
Dr. Harkirat Gill, SMO, Sidhwan Bet, was also arrested in this connection. During the raid, a total of ₹104,500 was recovered from the purse of Dr. Harkirat Gill, SMO and ₹107,000 from the purse of the accused Satwinder Singh, Senior Assistant. A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Economic Offences Wing of the Ludhiana, Punjab Police Station and further investigation is underway.
