Violent Clash in Jind Jail Leaves Three Inmates Seriously Injured

Jind, Haryana: Three inmates were critically injured in a violent clash between two groups of prisoners at Jind District Jail in Haryana.

The attackers used sharp knives made from iron utensils. The injured were admitted to Jind Civil Hospital for treatment, while police have registered a case against 10 of the attackers and launched an investigation.

    Attack Orchestrated with Makeshift Weapons

Manjit, a resident of Siwaha village and an undertrial prisoner in a murder case, was lodged in jail block number 5. On March 18, around 3:30 p.m., while he was sleeping with fellow inmates Vijay and Mohit, they were attacked by a group including Praveen, Vipin, Manjit, Sukhwinder, Sahil, Naseeb, Vishal, Rohit, Sandeep, and Balkar.

The attackers had broken prison utensils and iron sheets, sharpening them against stones to use as weapons. The assault was sudden and swift, leaving the victims with little time to react. The prison warden and security personnel intervened immediately and rescued the injured inmates.

    Motive Linked to Previous Dispute

Police investigations and statements from Manjit revealed that he had been arguing with Praveen and Ravindra over the past two to three days. The attack was reportedly planned by Praveen and his associates to settle old scores.

Extent of Injuries and Police Action

According to the hospital medical report (MLR), Manjit sustained five injuries, Mohit two, and Vijay one serious injury. ASI Samarjeet Singh of Civil Lines Police Station, Jind, recorded the statements of the injured at the hospital.

A case has been registered under Sections 191(3), 190, 115(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 42 of the Prisons Act, 1894.
