Viviana Shekhar Leads Second Round of Her “Bin the Waste” Cleanliness Drive

Chandigarh: At just 15 years old, Viviana Shekhar is turning her passion for cleanliness into a growing community movement. While most teenagers are occupied routine activities, Viviana is on a mission to build a greener, more responsible future. A year ago, troubled by the increasing plastic waste around her neighbourhood, she founded her passion project, “Bin the Waste.”

    Idea Behind ‘Bin the Waste’

Her initiative focuses on three simple yet powerful ideas: responsible waste collection, plastic recycling, and encouraging people to adopt sustainable habits. And today, Viviana led the second round of her door-to-door plastic waste collection campaign.

Joined by sanitation workers, she visited households across the locality, collecting discarded plastic and ensuring that it would be sent for recycling rather than ending up in landfills or open dumps.

    Say no to Plastics

Viviana’s earlier campaigns have already made an impact. During her visit to the local grain market last month, she persuaded shopkeepers and customers to give up plastic bags.

The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many opting for jute and biodegradable alternatives. That success strengthened her belief that awareness—when delivered with sincerity—can spark real change.

With every round of her campaign, “Bin the Waste” is steadily growing beyond a schoolgirl’s idea and evolving into a community movement. Viviana now hopes to take her initiative to schools, marketplaces, and eventually to neighbouring cities, inspiring more people—especially young children—to rethink their use of plastic.

Her work is a reminder that meaningful change doesn’t always begin with big institutions; sometimes, it begins with the determination of a teenager who refuses to look away. For Viviana, “Bin the Waste” is not just a project—it’s her commitment to a cleaner, greener tomorrow.
