Voting in Amritsar’s five municipal councils on May 26, nominations open today

Elections will be held in the five municipal councils of Amritsar district—Ajnala, Jandiala Guru, Majitha, Ramdas, and Raiya—on May 26, 2026. The Model Code of Conduct has been implemented in all these areas as soon as the election schedule was released.

The district administration has begun all preparations for the elections.

Municipal elections to be held across Punjab

District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh stated that elections are being held for eight municipal corporations, 76 municipal councils, and 21 municipal councils in Punjab. Voting will also take place in the five municipal councils of Amritsar district.

He stated that the administration is fully vigilant to ensure a fair and transparent election process.

Nomination Process Begins Today

Candidates will be able to submit their nomination papers from May 13th to May 16th, 2026. Nominations will be submitted at the offices of the respective Returning Officers from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Nomination papers will be scrutinized on May 18th, while candidates can withdraw their nominations until May 19th, at 3:00 PM.

The administration stated that candidates will be required to submit an affidavit. Candidates from political parties will also need to provide their party’s authorization letter. Candidates’ KYC information will be uploaded on the district administration’s website.

Election Results Will Be Declared on May 29th

Voting for the Municipal Council elections will be held on May 26th from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Vote counting will take place at designated polling stations on May 29th, 2026.

The district administration has appealed to the public to participate enthusiastically in this festival of democracy.
