New Delhi: The buzz surrounding leadership change within the Punjab Congress has intensified. Former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring will meet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi on Friday. This meeting is expected to take place around 11 am. Following this, a decision on the name of the new Punjab Congress state president may be finalized.
Warding arrived in Delhi on Thursday night. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi’s office had summoned him for the meeting a day earlier. It is believed that Warring’s opinion and recommendation may be considered in the selection of the new state president.
Change in social media bio fuels speculation
There is also talk of giving Warring, considered close to Rahul Gandhi, some new responsibility within the organization. Meanwhile, on Thursday, he changed his bio on his social media accounts to identify himself as “former PPCC president,” further fueling speculation about a leadership change within the Punjab Congress.
Discussion on Hindu Face Also Intensifies
According to party sources, the Congress leadership is also considering a Hindu face for the post of state president in Punjab, instead of once again entrusting the responsibility to a Jat Sikh leader.
The names of former Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana KP Singh and former minister Vijay Inder Singla are also being discussed. The final discussion on the new president is likely to take place between Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Punjab Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot.
Warring has not resigned
Meanwhile, a close associate of Warring has clarified that the party has not formally asked for his resignation, nor has he submitted his resignation.
According to the aide, Warring was indeed informed of the leadership change in the Punjab Congress. Following this, he updated his social media bio.
