Weather Change in Punjab: Possibility of Rain in some areas, strong winds Expected

Temperatures in Punjab and Chandigarh have been on the rise over the past few days; however, the weather is set to change once again starting Thursday. A Western Disturbance has reached the mountainous regions. Consequently, rain is likely at a few isolated places in Pathankot, Amritsar, and Gurdaspur today. Nevertheless, temperatures are expected to rise during this period.

Compared to Wednesday, the temperature has increased by 1.3 degrees. It now stands 2.6 degrees above the normal average. The highest temperature—38.3 degrees—was recorded in Patiala, while Chandigarh recorded a temperature of 36.8 degrees.

How ​​the Weather Will Change Today

According to the Meteorological Department, a Western Disturbance and a cyclonic circulation system remain active. This has resulted in the formation of a trough, which will bring about a noticeable change in weather conditions. As a result, clouds are expected to gather over several districts by evening, while some locations in Amritsar, Pathankot, and Hoshiarpur may also experience rainfall. Additionally, breezy winds are expected to blow during the day.

Temperatures Rise Across All Districts

The highest temperature in the state—38.3 degrees Celsius—was recorded in Patiala. Furthermore, temperatures were recorded as follows: Chandigarh at 36.8°C (an increase of 1.5°C), Amritsar at 36.1°C (1.3°C), Ludhiana at 37.0°C (1.4°C), Faridkot at 37.5°C (1.3°C), Gurdaspur at 35.5°C (2.0°C), Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahr) at 35.2°C (2.1°C), Fazilka at 36.7°C (0.6°C), Ferozepur at 36.0°C (0.7°C), Hoshiarpur at 35.4°C (1.4°C), Mohali at 35.8°C (1.3°C), Ropar at 35.7°C (1.3°C), and Sri Anandpur Sahib at 36.5°C. The weather remained dry across all districts, with no rainfall recorded anywhere; consequently, the heat was distinctly felt throughout the entire state.

Possibility of Rain Today and Tomorrow

According to Surendra Pal, Director of the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rainfall at one or two isolated locations within the state between April 16 and 17. Additionally, the maximum temperature is expected to rise gradually by approximately 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the coming four days. Following this period, no significant change in temperature is anticipated, and weather conditions are expected to remain largely unchanged.
