Weather Likely to Remain Dry in Punjab and Chandigarh; Temperatures drop due to Cloud Cover

Temperatures are on the rise in Punjab and Chandigarh. The weather is expected to remain dry for the next seven days. However, a decline in temperatures has been recorded in several areas over the past 24 hours due to overcast skies. The state’s overall temperature has dropped by 2.3 degrees and now remains close to normal levels. The highest temperature 38.4 degrees, was recorded in Faridkot. Chandigarh also witnessed a temperature drop of 1.4 degrees.

Rainfall Recorded in Amritsar

Regarding rainfall over the last 24 hours, only Amritsar recorded very light precipitation (a trace), while the weather remained completely dry across all other districts, with no rainfall recorded anywhere else. Nevertheless, the presence of clouds has led to a decrease in temperatures.

There is no likelihood of any rain or thunderstorms on Saturday. However, on April 19, there remains a possibility of rain at isolated locations across Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, and Bathinda.

Temperatures Exceed 33 Degrees in 13 Districts

According to the Meteorological Department, temperatures in 13 districts of the state ranged between 33 and 38 degrees. Temperatures have dropped across all districts. Amritsar recorded the most significant decline—3.2 degrees—with the temperature settling at 34.8 degrees. In Ludhiana, the temperature stood at 36.6 degrees, marking a drop of 3.0 degrees. Patiala recorded a decline of 2.2 degrees (at 37.3 degrees), while Bathinda recorded a drop of 2.8 degrees (at 37.6 degrees).

Mohali Temperature at 36.0 Degrees

Faridkot recorded the highest temperature in the state at 38.4 degrees. In SBS Nagar (Nawanshahr), the temperature was recorded at 34.2 degrees, marking a decline of 2.4 degrees. In Hoshiarpur, a temperature of 34.9 degrees was recorded, marking a decrease of 1.0 degree, while Rupnagar (Salern) recorded 33.2 degrees, reflecting a drop of 3.0 degrees. In Mohali, the temperature stood at 36.0 degrees, where a slight decline of 0.6 degrees was observed.

Bhakra Dam (Rupnagar) recorded a temperature of 35.4 degrees—a drop of 2.3 degrees—while Anandpur Sahib registered a temperature of 34.6 degrees. Fazilka and Ferozepur recorded temperatures of 36.8 degrees and 35.8 degrees, respectively.

Rainfall Recorded at Over 179 Percent

When looking at rainfall data from March 1 to April 17, the situation appears somewhat different. During this period, Ferozepur recorded 183 percent excess rainfall, while Fazilka recorded a surplus of 167 percent. Conversely, Hoshiarpur experienced a significant deficit of 67 percent, while Ludhiana and Jalandhar recorded 42 percent and 41 percent less rainfall, respectively. Overall, between March 1 and April 17, the average rainfall across Punjab was 179 percent higher than normal, indicating an unusually high volume of precipitation for this season.
