Weather in Punjab will remain dry until February 12; No rain and cold winds expected

The weather in Punjab and Chandigarh has changed. Temperatures have started to rise. Clear weather is expected from today, Saturday, until February 12th. The weather will remain completely dry during this period. No weather alerts have been issued by the meteorological department. Sunshine is expected during the day, although cool surface winds will continue. Fog is possible in some areas.

In the last 24 hours, the temperature in most areas has increased by an average of 0.3 degrees Celsius. Faridkot recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 6.0 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, dense fog was observed in Adampur, where visibility was recorded at zero meters.

Nighttime Temperatures Rise

According to the meteorological department, the minimum temperature has increased by 0.9 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours and is now close to normal. The minimum temperature in all districts of the state ranged between 6.0 and 9.1 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 8.3 degrees Celsius. This is the first time in about 13 years that such a temperature has been recorded in Chandigarh in February. Earlier, on February 6th, the minimum temperature was 8.6 degrees Celsius.

In other districts, the minimum temperatures recorded were: Amritsar 6.3 degrees, Ludhiana 8.4 degrees, Patiala 9.5 degrees, Pathankot 7.5 degrees, Faridkot 6.0 degrees, SBS Nagar 7.3 degrees, Firozpur 7.0 degrees, Mansa 9.1 degrees, and Rupnagar 8.3 degrees Celsius.

30 Percent Less Rainfall Recorded Compared to Last Year

According to the meteorological department, there was some rainfall in February of 2022, 2023, and 2024, but even then, the rainfall in Punjab and Haryana was below normal. A rainfall deficit of about 30 percent was recorded in 2025. This year, a deficit of 34 percent is being observed so far. This is just the beginning, and the chances of good rainfall in the future are low. Looking at the data from the past six years, the month of February has not been particularly good in terms of rainfall.
