Weather to remain dry in Punjab and Chandigarh today; Bright sunshine along with winds

Temperatures have begun to rise in Punjab and Chandigarh, a trend expected to result in intense heat in the coming days. However, strong winds blowing from the mountains are currently prevailing during the daytime—a pattern that is expected to continue today as well. The weather is expected to remain dry. A Western Disturbance is set to reach the mountainous regions on April 15 and 16.

Consequently, there is a possibility of rainfall in certain areas. Over the past 24 hours, a temperature rise of 1.9 degrees Celsius has been recorded, bringing the mercury close to normal levels. Temperatures of 35.1 degrees Celsius in Patiala and 33.9 degrees Celsius in Chandigarh have been recorded.

Temperature Set to Change Over Two Days
According to the Meteorological Department, very strong winds are currently blowing at high altitudes over Northwest India. These winds are moving at speeds of approximately 200 kilometers per hour. Starting April 15, a Western Disturbance is becoming active over the hilly regions (Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand). This is likely to result in light rainfall, cloud cover, or strong winds. Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh may also experience slight changes in weather conditions and a marginal dip in temperatures.

Chandigarh Records Lowest Minimum Temperature
Over the past 24 hours, some locations in Punjab experienced squalls accompanied by strong winds blowing at speeds ranging from 30 to 50 kilometers per hour. Wind speeds of 39 km/h in Sangrur and 35 km/h in Faridkot were recorded. On April 13, Chandigarh recorded the lowest minimum temperature—15.2 degrees Celsius—among all the plains regions of the country; this figure was significantly lower than normal, falling approximately 3.1 to 5.0 degrees Celsius below the average.

Possibility of Light Rainfall
According to Surender Pal, Director of the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rainfall in certain areas on April 16 and 17, while the weather is expected to remain dry on the remaining days. Over the next two days, strong surface winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour may prevail. Furthermore, the maximum temperature is expected to rise by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius over the coming six days.
