West Bengal STF Arrests Three More Suspected Pakistani Spies in Cooch Behar

Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police has arrested three more suspected Pakistani spies or ISI agents from Sahebganj in Cooch Behar district, officials said on Saturday.

The three accused Rashidul Haque, Nur Nasiruddin Ali and Shafiqul Islam were arrested late Friday night from the Sahebganj area. Investigators are questioning them to gather more information about their alleged activities and possible links with other suspects.

Suspects Allegedly Sent Indian SIM Cards to Pakistan

According to preliminary investigation, the three arrested men were allegedly working as spies and were involved in collecting Indian mobile SIM cards and sending them to Bangladesh. The SIM cards were allegedly subsequently routed to Pakistan.

The STF also suspects their involvement in the circulation of counterfeit currency. Investigators are probing their wider network and checking whether they had links with Pakistani spies arrested earlier this month.

The arrests come days after the West Bengal STF detained two persons, including a Pakistani national, for their alleged links with Pakistan’s intelligence network.

Probe Into Links With Pakistani National Wahab Alam

On August 12, the STF arrested Rana Rauf alias Wahab Alam, a resident of Faisalabad in Pakistan, from Habra in North 24 Parganas district following specific intelligence inputs.

A preliminary STF investigation indicated that Wahab Alam allegedly had links with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Following his arrest, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) began collecting information related to the case and contacted the Bengal STF for details of the investigation.

The STF also recovered netbook data that allegedly revealed the identities of five Nepal-based associates of Wahab Alam. During interrogation, he allegedly disclosed details of how these operators helped him maintain contact with his suspected ISI handlers in Pakistan.

Investigators are now examining whether the three newly arrested suspects had any contact with Wahab Alam or his Nepal-based associates.

Last month, the Bengal Police also arrested Hamim Mondal, an alleged Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) associate, from his rented accommodation in Burdwan town of East Burdwan district.

The latest arrests are part of the ongoing investigation into suspected espionage networks operating across West Bengal and their alleged links with Pakistan.
