Two Killed, Two Missing After Car Plunges Into Canal in Andhra Pradesh’s West Godavari

Amaravati: Two persons died and two others went missing after a car in which they were travelling plunged into a canal in Andhra Pradesh’s West Godavari district, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place late on Saturday night when the car lost control and fell into the Narsapuram canal near Itempudi in Irgavaram mandal.

Four occupants of the car went missing, while one person managed to escape safely. Police rushed to the spot and launched a search operation with the help of divers and firefighting personnel.

The bodies of two of the missing persons were recovered from the canal on Sunday morning.

Victims Were Returning After Wedding

The victims were identified as Pothula Lakshmi Bhanu (18), Rajaram (17), D. Nagi Reddy (18) and Sai Surya (19).

The group was travelling to Mori village in East Godavari district after attending a friend’s wedding at Peravali village. Police said the youths were heading to meet another friend when the accident occurred.

The area was witnessing rain, and the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The victims were washed away after the car plunged into the canal.

Firefighting personnel recovered the bodies of Lakshmi Bhanu and Nagi Reddy. They were shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. Rescue workers also pulled the car out of the canal, while the search continued for the remaining missing persons.

One of the occupants managed to survive after holding on to a tree and was later rescued with the help of locals.

Youth Drowns in Telangana

Meanwhile, a youth drowned in the Nagarjuna Sagar backwaters in Telangana’s Nalgonda district.

The incident occurred when a group of friends went on a pleasure trip to the Vizag Colony backwaters and entered the Krishna River for swimming. One of the youths was swept away.

After a search operation lasting more than two hours, local authorities retrieved the body of Durga Tirumallesh.
