West Indies Name Test Squad for Pakistan Series; Joshua Bishop Earns Maiden Call-Up

St John’s (Antigua): Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Pakistan, with left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop receiving his maiden Test call-up following impressive performances in domestic cricket.

The two-match ICC World Test Championship series will be played in Trinidad, with the first Test scheduled from July 25-29 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy and the second from August 2-6 at Queen’s Park Oval.

Joshua Bishop Rewarded for Domestic Form

The 26-year-old Bishop has been rewarded after emerging as one of the standout bowlers in West Indies domestic cricket. Over the last three West Indies Championship seasons, the left-arm spinner claimed 91 wickets for Barbados Pride and the West Indies Academy — the highest tally by any bowler during that period.

Top-order batter Kirk McKenzie has also returned to the Test squad after opener John Campbell was ruled out with a left hamstring injury sustained during the ODI series against New Zealand. McKenzie impressed in this season’s West Indies Championship, scoring 323 runs at an average of 64.60.

Alzarri Joseph Misses Out

Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has been left out of the squad due to personal reasons. The selectors have otherwise retained the core of the side that recently secured a 1-0 Test series victory over Sri Lanka. Roston Chase will captain the team, while Jomel Warrican has been named vice-captain.

Roston Chase (Captain), Jomel Warrican (Vice-Captain), Joshua Bishop, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Joshua Da Silva, Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, Shai Hope, Amir Jangoo, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Kirk McKenzie, Keemo Paul, Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales.

Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, will also be looking to make a strong start to the World Test Championship cycle when the series begins on July 25.
