Rajasthan: Back-to-back western disturbances have brought a change in weather across Rajasthan. A new system became active on Saturday, affecting border districts including Jaisalmer, Sriganganagar, and Barmer. Most areas in Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, and Jaipur divisions experienced overcast skies from the afternoon. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rain in eight districts on Sunday.
Rain and Crop Damage in Western Districts
Over the past 24 hours, light to moderate rain accompanied by strong winds was recorded in Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Sriganganagar, and Phalodi. Heavy rainfall in Jaisalmer led to flooding of fields, damaging harvested crops, with the Ramgarh and Kuchdi areas suffering the most.
Daytime Temperatures Remain Moderate
Due to the western disturbance, western districts experienced a mild chill in the afternoon. Maximum temperatures recorded on Saturday were:
- Barmer: 32.2°C
- Jaisalmer: 31.4°C
- Jodhpur: 32.4°C
- Bikaner: 31.6°C
- Churu: 31.4°C
- Sriganganagar: 30.4°C
- Hanumangarh: 27.6°C
- Jaipur: 28.6°C
Other cities saw:
- Sikar: 28.5°C
- Pilani (Jhunjhunu): 29.5°C
- Alwar: 27.5°C
- Nagaur: 31.3°C
- Jhunjhunu: 28.8°C
- Dausa: 29.4°C
- Ajmer: 30.2°C
- Kota: 30.8°C
- Udaipur: 30°C
- Pali: 32.9°C (highest daytime temperature)
Night Temperatures Fall Below 20°C
Continuous rain and cold winds have lowered night temperatures across the state. Minimum temperatures recorded were:
- Barmer: 18.8°C
- Jaisalmer: 17.7°C
- Churu: 15.6°C
- Sriganganagar: 16°C
- Alwar: 12.9°C
- Jaipur: 16.7°C
- Sikar: 15°C
- Pilani: 17°C
- Ajmer: 16.7°C
Weather Forecast
Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Center, Jaipur, said, “Another weak western disturbance has activated in Rajasthan. Its partial effect will be felt in the districts of Jodhpur, Bikaner division, and Shekhawati region on March 22. Light rain and drizzle accompanied by thundershowers are expected here. Most other areas are expected to remain dry for the next four to five days.”
The western disturbances are providing temporary relief from heat, but farmers are urged to remain cautious as crop damage has already occurred in affected areas.
