Karnal: 15-Year-Old Boy Jumps Into Western Yamuna Canal After Argument With Brother Over PUBG

Karnal: A 15-year-old boy allegedly jumped into the Western Yamuna Canal after a fight broke out with his older brother over playing PUBG instead of doing his studies. The boy, whose name has been identified as Prince, went missing on Monday evening and searches are being carried out.

The boy, who is a Class 9 student, left his house in Shastri Nagar after his older brother, Sonu, asked him to stop playing the online game.

Eldest Brother Tries to Stop Him

On Monday evening around 7:30pm it is believed the boy fell out with his brother and ran off. He ran off down an unmade track heading towards the Western Yamuna Canal.

The eldest brother ran after him and tried to stop Prince as he reached the safety grill. However, the teenager struggled to get away from his brother and jumped inside the canal.

    Searches Begin

Once the information had been passed onto them a Dial 112 ambulance, local police officers and divers travelled to the scene to carry out searches.

“We got the information through the Emergency Response Vehicle that there was a boy who was around 15 years old who had jumped into the canal. We travelled there and started searching the canal,” said Karan, one of the divers.

However, due to the canal being dark it was not possible to search the canal past late evening. Searches resumed on Tuesday morning but so far the boy has not been found.

Only Small Argument At Home, Family Say

Prince’s family said there was no big issue with the boy and he was simply told to do his studies. They said they were worried by the incident and there was only a small argument.

Police officers from Ramnagar police station arrived at the scene and spoke to the family. The SHO, Deepchand, said: “We got the information that the boy had jumped in the canal. The eldest brother said there was a small argument.”

“We’re looking into whether it was to do with his studies or not, we’re still trying to find the boy.”
