Fences are erected to protect crops so that stray animals or humans cannot damage them, but the government has taken a serious approach to combat the drug problem in Punjab. Now, the central government has also announced a national campaign to eradicate drug addiction. The Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is vigorously pursuing the “War Against Drugs” campaign to eradicate drug addiction. Following the Jhota murder case, the government handed over the investigation to the CBI. Following the CBI, the Income Tax Department also raided several locations on Monday as part of its investigation. The Punjab government is diligently prioritizing drug eradication. If some de-addiction centers appear to be hindering the government’s campaign, the example of the fence eating the field is fitting. It has been discovered that some de-addiction centers in the state are being run by a single firm. This is legally illegal. A single individual cannot operate more than five de-addiction centers at different locations. The Income Tax Department conducted the raids simultaneously with teams from Ludhiana and Chandigarh. De-addiction centers operating under Suman Info Healthcare Private Limited were targeted. This complaint is an old one. Last year, in July 2025, the Enforcement Directorate raided 22 de-addiction centers in Punjab and took action against them under the Money Laundering Act. These 22 centers were operated by a person named Dr. Amit Kumar. The ED had then taken action under the Money Laundering Act. On Monday, raids were also conducted in Muktsar, Malout, Mansa, Barnala, Abohar, Patiala, Nawanshahr, Jalandhar, Nakodar, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Chandigarh, Kapurthala, Sirhind, Khamano, and Khanna. These raids were conducted by 160 to 200 officers drawn from Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana, accompanied by CRPF and BSF personnel. For the first time, the Income Tax Department has taken action on such a large scale against de-addiction centers. These centers illegally sold buprenorphine and naloxone salts for de-addiction. It has also been alleged that a 4 rupee tablet was being sold for 80 rupees at these de-addiction centers. To launder money, dummy patients are shown in whose names the drugs are ordered. It is hoped that the speedy investigation will yield fruitful results.
