Woman injured in stabbing attack in Tokyo, suspect at large

Tokyo: A woman was stabbed in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward on Monday, and the attacker is still at large, local media reported. According to police, the victim was conscious and able to answer questions, and her condition is stable.

The incident occurred about 200 meters southwest of JR Takadanobaba Station. Police described the attacker as thin and said he fled the scene. Police are continuing to search for the suspect and have appealed to the public for any information.

Recent Surge in Stabbing Attacks in Japan

This incident comes amid a recent spate of stabbing attacks in Japan:

On December 26, 15 people were injured in a stabbing attack at a Yokohama rubber factory in Shizuoka Prefecture. Police arrested Masaaki Oyama (38) on suspicion of attempted murder. An investigation is also underway into reports of an unknown liquid spill at the factory. The factory employs approximately 980 workers.

On December 15, 30-year-old Naoya Yamaguchi was arrested in Fukuoka in connection with two separate stabbing attacks that injured a man and a woman working at an HKT48 event. Police confirmed Yamaguchi’s confession.

Details of the Fukuoka Attacks

The Fukuoka attacks occurred on December 14th at the Mizuho Pepai Dome Stadium and the nearby entertainment venue Boss E.Zo Fukuoka, where HKT48 performs. A 44-year-old event worker was stabbed in the chest, while a 27-year-old woman was injured in the back.

Police are continuing to investigate these incidents and have increased security at public places following the recent attacks.
