Woman murdered in Guwahati months after marriage; head found in fridge; husband arrested

Guwahati: A sensational case involving the alleged murder of a 25-year-old woman has come to light in Guwahati. The woman had been married just a few months ago. Police discovered her body after neighbors complained about a foul odor coming from the flat. The police have arrested her husband in connection with the case.

Neighbors alerted police after noticing a foul smell

The incident came to light on September 6. Neighbors complained to the police about a strong, unpleasant odor emanating from the flat. They reported that the couple had not been seen for about two days and that both their mobile phones were switched off.

Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and broke open the lock to enter the flat. Inside, they found the woman’s body, which was in a highly decomposed state. The deceased was identified as Riya Talukdar.

Woman’s head found in a polythene bag inside the fridge

During a search of the flat, the police discovered the woman’s head inside the refrigerator, wrapped in a polythene bag. Some fingers on the body were also found severed.

The police have taken possession of the body and the head, sending them for a post-mortem examination. Additionally, evidence found at the scene has been secured for investigation.

Husband had been missing since the incident

The woman’s husband was not present in the flat when the police arrived. According to neighbors, he was last seen on Friday, after which his whereabouts were unknown.

The police had launched a search for him and were investigating other aspects of the case.

Husband surrendered at the police station

On Sunday night, the woman’s husband surrendered to the police and was subsequently arrested. Investigating officers are currently recording his statement and cross-verifying his claims against the evidence found at the crime scene.

The police have not yet disclosed the alleged motive behind the murder. It also remains unclear why the accused chose to surrender to the police. The investigation is ongoing.
