Woman teacher assaulted by her husband inside Kerala school

Kottayam: In a disturbing incident, a woman teacher was allegedly attacked inside her school on Thursday by her husband, causing panic among students and staff. The incident occurred at Poovathumoodu School in Ettumanoor around 10:30 a.m., when the accused, identified as Kochumon, entered the campus and assaulted his wife, Doniya, a teacher at the institution.

Attack Inside Headmistress’ Room
According to school authorities, the assault took place inside the headmistress’ room. Kochumon reportedly used a sharp object to stab Doniya on her neck after asking to meet her. She sustained injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital. Initial reports suggest her injuries are not life-threatening.

Linked to Family Dispute
School staff indicated that the attack appears to be related to family issues. Earlier in the day around 9:30 a.m., the accused had visited the school and enquired about his wife, but left after the headmistress informed him she had not arrived.

Assault Unfolds Within Minutes
He returned an hour later and claimed he came to give her a book, insisting on meeting her. Believing there was no threat, the headmistress called Doniya to her office—where the attack took place. Hearing her screams, colleagues rushed to the room, but Kochumon had already fled.

Police Probe Underway
Police have launched a full investigation and are searching for the accused. Statements from school staff are being recorded, and authorities will examine potential security lapses that allowed unrestricted entry during school hours.
