X-Ray, Ultrasound Services Halted at Shimla’s Khaneri Hospital; Patients from Four Districts Forced to Turn to Private Clinics

X-ray and ultrasound services at Khaneri Hospital in Shimla district have come to a halt, causing a lot of trouble for patients. This hospital is the only major health center for people from four districts, where hundreds of patients come every day for treatment. Around 1,000 patients visit the hospital’s OPD daily.

With these basic testing facilities closed, patients are facing increased difficulties. Poor and remote patients are being forced to get tests done at private clinics at more than double the cost.

They have to pay between 800 to 1,500 rupees for an ultrasound and more than 300 rupees for an X-ray, which is increasing the financial burden on poor families.

Pregnant women are facing the most trouble

Pregnant women are facing the most trouble due to the ultrasound being unavailable, as they need to undergo this test multiple times during pregnancy. This service used to be free at the hospital, but now they have to pay expensive fees at private labs. The hospital cites a technical fault in the X-ray plant, while the ultrasound machine is 20 years old and broken.

Former candidate Kaul Singh expressed concern over this situation

Former Himcofed chairman and BJP’s ex-candidate Kaul Singh has expressed concern over this situation. He said that ever since the Congress government came to power in the state, the condition of Khameri Hospital has deteriorated. He has demanded that the state government and senior health officials restore the services that have been blocked in the hospital as soon as possible.

Kaul Singh has warned that if the government and health department officials do not take prompt notice of this matter, the BJP will be forced to protest in the interest of the public.
