Yamuna Expressway Crash: Four Dead, 27 Hurt as Bus Hits Trailer

A Volvo bus rammed into a trailer from behind on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura at around 3.30 am on Tuesday. 4 people died in the accident. 27 passengers were injured. The collision was so severe that the front of the bus penetrated the trailer for about 8 feet. The passengers were trapped in the bus. The body of a young man was found hanging from the window.

There was screaming and chaos at the spot. The passengers were evacuated by breaking the windows and gates. The police started the rescue with the help of locals. The bus was on its way from Lucknow to Delhi. There were 65 passengers on board. The accident took place in Raya police station area, 20 km from Mathura district headquarters.

The deceased have been identified as bus driver Updesh Yadav, conductor, cleaner and a passenger, SSP Shlok Kumar said. The names of 3 of the deceased are yet to be ascertained. All 34 passengers on board the bus are safe. They have been sent to their homes in other buses.

Most of the passengers were sleeping when the accident occurred. In such a situation, many passengers were trapped between the seats after the collision. The bus was cut with a gas cutter to remove them. The rescue lasted for about two hours.

SSP said – The conductor was driving the bus, could not handle it.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that at the time of the accident, it was not the regular driver, but the conductor who was driving the bus. The bus was speeding while the trailer was in its lane. The conductor turned the bus abruptly. The bus crashed into the trailer from behind.

SP Dehat Suresh Chandra Rawat said, “The accident took place two km before Raya Cut on the expressway. The ballast-laden trailer (RJ 47 GA 8143) was going into its lane. A speeding Volvo bus (BR 28P 4723) coming from behind lost control and rammed into the trailer.
He said that the collision was so strong that the front part of the bus was crushed by two to two and a half meters i.e. 8 feet. The police control room was informed about the accident at 3.35 am. Eight PRBs and 12 ambulances were sent to the spot. A green corridor was created to take the injured to the hospital.
All the 27 injured are undergoing treatment, the SP said. His condition is stable. The cause of the accident has been revealed to be the negligence and overspeed of the bus driver.

Passengers were evacuated by breaking the glass of the emergency gate.

Preeti Srivastava, a resident of Faridabad, said, “We were going from Lucknow to Faridabad. She was accompanied by her husband and two children. The bus was at a very high speed. She had stopped at a dhaba half an hour before the accident. After walking some distance, the bus started to wobble. Many passengers were asleep at the time. Then the accident happened. The passengers fell from their seats. People were evacuated by breaking the glass of the emergency gate behind them. We were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Jitesh Kumar Srivastava, a resident of Lucknow, said, “We work at the state level in the Directorate of Panchayati Raj. Ravindra and Abhishek were also on the bus with me. The three of us were on our way from Lucknow to Delhi.

The accident happened at around 3:30 am. For a moment, I didn’t understand what happened. The collision was so strong that many passengers sitting in front of the bus did not get a chance to recover. We thought the people sitting in the front died on the spot. The bus was completely full.

Injured Subhan said – the passengers sitting in the front were more injured.

Subhan, a resident of Lucknow, said, “I was going from Lucknow to Delhi with my parents. We had to go to my grandmother’s house in Delhi.

On the way, our bus hit a truck from behind. The collision was very fast. The passengers sitting in front of the bus were the most hurt. The driver was also killed. We were sitting in the back, so we survived.

The injured have been referred to Agra, 3 are in critical condition.

Mathura District Hospital’s doctor Sushil Kumar said that 27 injured were brought to the hospital in the accident. Some of the injured have been referred to Agra. Some of the patients are residents of Delhi. They are also being forwarded. The condition of two to three injured is critical. He has a fracture in his thigh (Thigh) bone. The condition of all the injured is normal.
