Sanitation worker commits suicide at Yamunanagar dharamshala; body found hanging from ceiling fan

Yamunanagar: A young man from Uttar Pradesh committed suicide today at the Marwari Dharamshala in Jagadhri, Yamunanagar. A worker who arrived to deliver tea peeked into the room and discovered the man’s body hanging from a noose. The Dharamshala management and the police were immediately informed.

Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene with the ‘Scene of Crime’ team, took custody of the body, and initiated an investigation. The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Sonu, son of Gopal, a resident of Nawada Kalan in Hapur district, Uttar Pradesh.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Sonu worked for a sanitation contractor engaged by the Municipal Corporation and had been staying in a room at the Marwari Dharamshala for the past four days.

Tea delivery leads to discovery of body

Investigating Officer ASI Rakesh Kumar stated that inquiries with the Dharamshala management revealed Sonu had checked in on the evening of June 10. As per the daily routine, Sunil Tiwari arrived at the room this Sunday morning to deliver tea, but despite knocking repeatedly, there was no response from inside.

He returned after a while and knocked again, but once more, there was no answer. Growing suspicious, Sunil peeked into the room through the space above the door and saw Sonu’s body hanging from the ceiling fan. Shocked by the sight, he immediately alerted the Dharamshala administration, who then called the police.

Autopsy to be conducted once family reaches hospital

The police have informed the deceased’s family members about the incident. The body has been taken into custody and placed in the mortuary at the Civil Hospital in Jagadhri. A post-mortem examination will be conducted after the family members arrive.

Police probe reasons behind suicide

The police state that further legal action will be taken after recording the statements of the family members. At present, the reason for the suicide remains unknown, and the police are investigating the matter by considering all aspects.
