Yash Calls for Unity in Indian Cinema, Says ‘Ramayana’ Belongs to Everyone

Mumbai: Actor Yash believes the upcoming epic Ramayana should not be seen as a film belonging to just one regional industry. Speaking at the film’s trailer launch in Bengaluru, he called on the Indian film fraternity to work together to take the country’s stories, culture and history to audiences across the world.

Yash said the story of Ramayana was deeply rooted in Indian culture and could not be the responsibility of a single film industry.

“This Ramayana is in all our blood. So, when making this film, this is not a work that can happen from just any one film industry. The entire Indian film industry must come together,” he said.

The actor also stressed that India should take the lead in telling its own stories rather than wait for others to present its history and traditions to the world.

“What is our history? What is our culture? If we sit waiting for someone else to say it, it cannot be told,” Yash said.

His wife, Radhika Pandit, attended the event to support him. The gathering also saw the presence of the film’s cast, including Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Ravi Dubey and Rakul Preet Singh, along with director Nitesh Tiwari and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari.

Yash Praises Ranbir Kapoor’s Commitment to Lord Rama

Yash had earlier spoken about the responsibility of playing characters revered by millions, praising his co-star Ranbir Kapoor for the dedication he has brought to the role of Lord Rama.

During a panel discussion on Ramayana at San Diego Comic-Con, Yash said portraying Lord Rama carried a responsibility that went beyond an ordinary acting assignment. He expressed confidence that audiences around the world would see a “beautiful Rama” in Ranbir’s performance.

“Nobody in this world can come and say, ‘I have the virtue to play Lord Rama.’ That’s how we see it. Just the fact that he says, ‘I can’t do it,’ speaks volumes,” Yash said, referring to Ranbir’s humility about taking on the role.

A video of his comments later gained attention on X.

The film is scheduled to release in cinemas worldwide on November 5, 2026. With a prominent cast and a story rooted in Indian tradition, the project aims to bring the epic to audiences beyond the country’s regional cinema markets.
