5-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Open Pond in Greater Noida

New Delhi: A tragic incident has shaken Greater Noida after a five-year-old boy drowned in an open pond in Chipyana village under the Bisrakh police station area.

The child, identified as Ishu, had been missing since February 18. According to family members, he was playing outside his house that afternoon when he suddenly disappeared. Despite extensive searches by relatives and villagers, he could not be traced.

    Body Recovered After Six Days

After failing to find him, the family lodged a missing complaint with the police. On Monday, Ishu’s body was found floating in an open pond located close to residential houses.

Police from the Bisrakh station reached the spot, took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Officials said prima facie it appears to be a case of accidental drowning, but all angles are being investigated.

    Villagers Allege Administrative Negligence

The incident sparked anger among residents, who accused the local administration and the Greater Noida Authority of negligence. Villagers claimed that the pond was neither fenced nor barricaded and lacked warning signs, reflectors or any safety measures, despite being near a populated area.

They alleged that concerns about unsecured water bodies had been raised earlier but were ignored.

    Demand for Safety Measures

Residents have demanded immediate steps to fence off open ponds and other hazardous sites to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The child’s death has left the village in deep mourning, with family members devastated and locals seeking accountability from authorities.
