Meerut: A shocking incident occurred in the Hastinapur area of ​​Meerut on Thursday morning, where a 17-year-old nephew shot and killed his 32-year-old aunt. After committing the crime, the accused went straight to the Mawana police station and surrendered to the police. The incident has cast a pall of gloom and silence over the village.

Entered the bedroom and shot in the temple

According to police, at around 9:20 a.m., family members were busy with household chores when suddenly a gunshot was heard. When family members rushed to the bedroom, Pooja Tyagi was lying on the floor in critical condition, writhing in pain.

It is reported that the accused nephew suddenly entered the room and, pointing a pistol at her aunt’s temple, fired two shots. He fled the scene. However, he arrived at the Mawana police station shortly after and surrendered to the police.

Married 4 years ago, son is 6 months old

The deceased, Pooja Tyagi, was married to Dharmendra Tyagi, a resident of Modinagar, four years ago. They also have a six-month-old son. The incident occurred in Ganeshpur village, under the Hastinapur police station area.

Upon receiving the information, police and forensic teams arrived at the scene and collected evidence. The police have sent the body for a postmortem and have begun investigating the case.

Husband’s grief: “A happy family was ruined”

Husband Dharmendra Tyagi collapsed upon hearing the news of his wife’s death. Crying, he said that his nephew had ruined a happy family.

He said that at the time of the incident, he had gone to the market to buy sweets. He received a call from home informing him that Pooja had been shot. When he arrived, his wife was already dead.

Accused was preparing for Agniveer recruitment

According to the family, the accused youth was preparing for Agniveer recruitment. Pooja’s father-in-law, Rajkumar Tyagi, lives in the house with the families of his two sons, Devendra and Dharmendra. Devendra is in the army and had returned to duty two days earlier after a leave of absence.

Dharmendra stated that Pooja and the accused were also cousins, as Pooja was his maternal uncle’s daughter.

Police recovered a pistol and cartridges

According to CO Mawana Pankaj Lavania, the accused arrived at the police station and reported frequent arguments and fights with his aunt. This angered him and he shot her.

Police recovered a pistol and an empty cartridge from the accused. The source of the weapon is under investigation.
